• Make a complete list of all items stored. Keep list separate from the storage space. Include brand names and serial numbers of electronic items, camera, etc. If possible take photos or videotape of items stored.
• Rent the smallest amount of space and pack space full, • Pack space carefully. Leave air space around perimeter to aid ventilation. Place a pallet or board on floor to guard against dampness. All concrete floors become cold and damp. Leave a walkway to the rear of space for easy access. Place frequently used goods near the door. • To keep items clean, wrap electronics and furniture in plastic, linens or clean paper. Place fragile items near the top of your storage space. • Stand sofas and mattress on end. Disassemble beds and table and wrap legs in paper. Use dresser tops for stacking boxes. Keep upholstery off the floor. Use climate controlled units for more protection of upholstered items. • Bicycles and metal items can be wiped with a rag containing a few drops of machine oil to retard rust. Store your shovels and garden tools in empty trash cans to save on storage space. • Do not store anything combustible such as gasoline, solvents, paint thinner, paint etc. • Use a good quality disc lock on your door. Inexpensive ones rust and do not provide proper security. |
